Franco formed part of the team literally from day one and joined with 4 year's experience of apple orchard management, bringing with him a wealth of technical expertise as well as the ability to find innovative solutions for the many challenges which face the establishment of an orchard from scratch!

Franco's dedication to technical excellence makes our orchard a model orchard which we are proud of.  His strict adherence to standards and his approach to Integrated Pest Management assures ourselves and our market of an exceptional product.

Franco has proven his expertise within Maluti Fruit Co-op’s members our past 4 seasons. He has consistently ensured above-average yields on all our varieties without compromise in quality; whilst achieving the highest pack-out on 5th leaf Pink Ladies in April 2005.

 

 

  

 

  


 


Our team of 16 has been sourced from the region's own Sotho people.  It is important for us that our people have balanced lives with schools, churches and medical facilities nearby. Our staff live in nearby Clarens and travel to and from work each day with transport provided for them.  

After five year's training in the orchards, these men are quite capable of managing their responsibilities  in the orchards with minimal supervision and are able to manage small teams of contract workers during peak times.   They have made such productivity improvements that 1000 new trees are planted per day during orchard establishment, in comparison with 600 trees per day planted in our first orchard.
